An active investor in unquoted companies, John co-founded Calculus Capital (formerly McDonald Glencross) with Susan McDonald in 1999.
Prior to founding Calculus Capital, John was previously an Executive Director in the Corporate Finance Division of UBS Securities for nine years, where he had extensive experience of mergers and acquisitions, equity finance raising, debt and convertibles financing, joint ventures and financial reconstructions. John was a member of UBS' European Corporate Finance Committee, a member and occasional chairman of the European Corporate Finance New Business Committee and a member of the European Equity Capital Markets Committee. Prior to this, he was a founding member of Deloitte Haskins and Sells' Corporate Finance Division, specialising in services to the small and medium sized businesses, where his experience included secondment to Prudential Venture Managers to restructure its venture capital arm, Prutec.
He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) where his experience included secondment to the Business Recovery Division. He has an MA (Hons) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.
