Award winning private equity fund manager Calculus Capital strengthens investment team with senior hire

Calculus Capital, the private equity firm and pioneer of Enterprise Investment Scheme (‘EIS’) funds, is pleased to announce the appointment of Alexander Crawford as Investment Director.

Alexander has over 20 years’ corporate finance experience, including ten years with Robert Fleming & Co, Evercore Partners and JP Morgan in London, New York and Johannesburg. He was previously a Managing Director at Pall Mall Capital. He has an MA in Mathematics from Cambridge University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG.

As a senior member of the investment team, Alexander’s role will be to source and execute new deals, as well as managing some of the existing portfolio companies through to exit. Calculus Capital’s current portfolio includes well-known names such as Chop’d, the popular salad bar chain, and Human Race, the UK’s largest mass participation sporting events company.

Calculus, which was founded in 1999, focuses on EIS and VCT investments in established, growing businesses within the UK SME market and has a proven track record of delivering strong returns for its investors, who are private individuals. The firm has, to date, exited more than 20 companies from its portfolio. This includes Scancell, a biotech firm which develops cancer immunotherapy vaccines, the 2014 exit of which delivered an 8.2x return and the exit of Waterfall, one of the UK’s leading independent mid-sized contract caterers which generated a 5.2x return in December 2014.
