Professional Adviser hosted a webinar bringing together a panel of the UK’s leading EIS experts, including Calculus Capital Chief Executive John Glencross, to discuss the implications of the Autumn Budget and the government’s response to the Patient Capital Review, in particular, what it all means for investors in the EIS space and those who advise on it and how it might change their approach to tax-efficient investment and tax planning.
John Glencross commented-
“The Treasury has committed that they give tax reliefs so money will flow into smaller, growth companies. It’s where it has re-positioned the whole investment arena for EIS and venture capital trusts [VCTs].
Historically, half of EIS was capital preservation but the government felt they weren’t giving tax breaks for those reasons. The focus is not necessarily on knowledge-intensive companies, but on entrepreneurial growth companies.”
